Constitutional Development Research Project

Country: South Sudan Date Range: 2013-2014 Project Lead: Center for Civil & Human Rights Notre Dame Collaborators: The Law School

The Transitional Constitution of South Sudan, installed July 9, 2011, defines the “Permanent Constitution Process.” Catholic Relief Services and the University of Notre Dame Center for Civil and Human Rights (CCHR) worked in collaboration to research topics related to the constitutional development process in Sudan. CCHR carried out the South Sudan Constitution research project in 2013-2014, producing a written report with expert advice on issues of South Sudan constitutional development. CCHR relied on CRS South Sudan to consult with appropriate Catholic Church officials there in identifying these issues. The end report provided resources to the Catholic Church in South Sudan for engagement it might undertake in the constitutional development process.
