Live Positively

Country: South Africa Date Range: 2013 Project Lead: Dept. of Art, Art History & Design

A team of students from Notre Dame’s Department of Art, Art History, and Design led by associate professor Robert Sedlack traveled to Johannesburg, South Africa to investigate the escalating HIV and AIDS crisis. The Notre Dame students discovered that while many South Africans have access to antiretroviral (ARV) medications that can delay the progression from HIV to AIDS, the cultural stigma and widespread misinformation on these medications often prevent their usage. Sedlack and the students responded to this challenge by designing educational resources, such as online support communities and a video series, aimed at empowering mothers and children with HIV/AIDS to “live positively.”
